Many of the worst disasters in the world occur in underdeveloped or socio-economically deprived countries. Areas remain in dire need of support services and are commonly susceptible include regions of Africa, Australia, Brazil, various countries in the Caribbean, as well as cities in the United States. The vulnerability of these zones may greatly exacerbate the effects of disasters.

These regions are expected to face immense disruption to the environment as a result of the storm, but must also resolve the accompanying humanitarian issues, such as the destruction of housing, illnesses and nutritional deficiencies. We confront critical issues that require serious humanitarian attention.
